Interior Designer

Somerville is seeking a candidate for the position of Interior Designer. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a creative and collaborative environment. The position can be either full-time or part-time.

Responsibilities include:


  • Work with architects, design team and clients to identify their needs and create interior spaces for new or renovated spaces.
  • Select colors, materials and finishes to appropriately convey the design concept and meet socio-psychological, functional, maintenance, lifecycle performance, environmental, budgetary, and safety requirements.
  • Assist client with selection of furniture, fixtures, equipment and millwork, including layout drawings and detailed product description; and assist in the process of pricing, procurement and installation of furniture.
  • Meet with and advise clients on progress of projects.
  • Produce room finish schedules for projects.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other allied design professionals.
  • Create finish presentations and reference boards as needed.
  • Assist firm as a resource regarding finishes and interiors industry standards and trends.
  • Develop color and finish boards.


  • Develop strategies to promote and cultivate interior design services for existing and potential clients.
  • Promote excellence in interior architecture through thought leadership and evidence-based design.


  • Develop / refine master specifications for interior materials.
  • Develop efficient methods to document material selections.
  • Maintain interiors library.
  • Research and stay current on design trends.


  • Artistic ability and style, creativity and imagination. Good 3D awareness and the ability to visualize concepts.
  • Interest in changing trends in design.
  • National Council for Interior Design Qualification certification is not required but candidate will be expected to obtain certification.
  • Work Experience – minimum 3 years. Additional experience in furniture layout or environmental graphics design is a plus.
  • Education – minimum 2 year degree.
  • Drawing and computer skills including Microsoft Office and a basic understanding of Revit.
  • Communication, presentation and teamwork skills.
  • Organizational skills.
