Parkview & Readfield Elementary Schools
SCHOOL DISTRICT OF NEW LONDON
Somerville began working with the School District of New London in 2019 after they passed a 2018 referendum for ongoing building maintenance and improvement projects at both the Readfield and Parkview Elementary Schools.
At Parkview Elementary School, Somerville’s design team created a new addition that provides flexible and collaborative spaces to elementary-aged students. The main restrooms were remodeled, and new restrooms were added. The finishes and casework in the classrooms were upgraded and a variety of flexible furniture was added to the classroom spaces to aid in collaboration. Acoustical sound panels were added in the gym/cafeteria. Windows and ceiling grids were replaced, and lighting was upgraded throughout the school. Somerville’s engineering team worked to update the school’s dated infrastructure systems. The packaged rooftop units were replaced and upgraded to variable air volume systems. Updates were made to the electrical distribution system. The entire hot water heating system was also replaced.
At Readfield Elementary, the majority of the remodel was focused on updating the school’s building envelope and infrastructure. The school’s west-facing facade was updated, and exterior windows were replaced. New lighting and ceiling grids were added. Similar to Parkview, classroom finishes, and casework were upgraded, and the hot water heating system was replaced. Our engineering team designed updates to the electrical distribution system, along with the replacement of unit ventilators to include air-conditioning.
